Introduction to Rock Climbing - MRG Gym

This program is designed for those new to gym climbing. We will provide you with the equipment and basic skills needed to climb in the rock gym. Over the course of three hours, we will cover use of gear, basic language, proper belay techniques, movement, route choice, and of course, a lot of climbing.

Boy Scout Merit Badge Program - MRG Gym

We work in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America to offer training towards meeting the merit badge requirements for rock climbing. Scouts will be taught all required introduction material and safety for climbing per BSA guidelines. There will be plenty of time for climbing, belaying, and rappelling. This course is taught in the rock gym over the course of two weekend mornings for a total of 6 hours of instruction. A skills assessment, and certification of completion are provided at the end of the session.

Price: $45 per scout - limited to 15 climbers (minimum of 10 required) Call MRG to schedule your session.

Basic Self Rescue - MRG Gym - Prerequisites apply ( see below)

The focus of this program is to teach climbers how to avoid problems on the cliff and safely navigate the most common rescue situations. It assumes that the climber has a solid understanding of gear placements, rope management, basic knots, and anchors. It is not designed to prepare climbers for all rescue situations as each is very unique. That being said, an increased understanding of the fundamentals in self-rescue may save you and your partner’s lives, if not at least minimize the seriousness of your situation.

Prerequisites:

• Been leading traditional routes outside for at least one year.
• Have a good understanding of placing solid protection.
• Have your own climbing rack with assorted cordalettes, lockers, etc...
